Term Three

TERM THREE

Wow!  Half the school year has gone already.We had a lovely settled term back in our classroom with our shelter to keep us dry and warm.  It was great being able to eat outside even though it may have rained.  We enjoyed looking at light and colour and trying some experiments.  We worked hard on some pieces for the art show.  All will be revealed in time!  Thank you to all of you who were able to make it to the parent teacher interviews.  I hope you all got the letters following up what we discussed.  I plan to telephone or email you during the term to see how you are going with the goals we agreed upon.Our big theme for the term is called “We’re all in this together”.  We will look at how to be a good friend, our feelings, keeping ourselves safe and values such as cooperation, consideration, kindness, friendliness, etc. This term we will be working on those maths and reading goals that we agreed upon.We are starting Year 2/3 singing this term instead of having sport as we missed out a lot last term. We have already started learning our theme song” We’re all in this together” from High School Musical 2. We now have P.E. on Wednesday and Friday.  We still have art on Wednesdays.  We have had to drop one of our Te Reo sessions so now we have topic study on 4 days.  Computer room work is on Wednesday and Friday.In the computer suite this term we will look at how to make a power point presentation.For maths I have started by retesting all the students in what they know for number knowledge, that is, what they know quickly without really working out e.g. 5 + 5.  In reading, I will continue working on the things that each child needs.  Lots of snap and memory games with the sight word cards and sound games.For writing we will continue with writing made up stories, explanation writing and some poetry.We will continue with Spelling Rulz and the students words will be stuck in the front of the notebook.For language development, we will have some baking sessions.  These will be on the odd weeks i.e. week 1, 3, 5, 7,9 and possibly week 11.It should be another productive term.  Let’s continue to work together!
