Term Two

We are back in our classroom with our lovely shelter to keep the rain, wind and sun out.

Over the holidays the students became proud parents of three beautiful male Monarch butterflies.  They have flown the shelter of our classroom now and like the Three Little Pigs have gone out into the world to make their way in it.

This term we are making investigations about light and colour.  We will study about mirrors, rainbows, bubbles and light.  If you have any resources on these topics and you would like to share them with us, we would like to see them.

If you would like to come in and see your child's work on the walls or in books and folders, I am usually around on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.  I work in the library Friday afternoons but you can arrange for me to come over to the classroom at 3pm if you want to come on a Friday.  The door is open at 8.30 in the mornings and you are welcome to come in with your child then, too.

Homework for Room 7 is a book or poem most days, spelling word list in the front of the notebook, word list of words to learn to read, a maths sheet with some ideas of what we are doing in our groups.  I trialled a number knowledge weekly test part way through last term to encourage students to become quicker at learning their number knowledge.  I will continue with this again during this term.  I will try to give the worksheet out on Thursday afternoons and then the test will be the following Thursday.  Some students also have alphabet knowledge to learn or blends.

 At the end of last term I gave out some activity sheets and some ideas for writing.  Writing is something that I would encourage you to do with your child.  The more they write the better they become at it and if they see you writing too, even better.  The computer is another way of writing too.
