Travelwise 4 School
Travelwise is an exciting initiative developed between schools and the City Council to explore ways to make travelling to and from school safer for our students. We are proud to be associated with this initiative and thanks to the dedication of a wonderful group of parents, we established a Walking School Bus. Basically this is a very structured and safe way for children to be escorted to and from school and if you want to find out more about it, email Yvonne in the office at office@avondaleprimary.school.nz and see if the route goes anywhere near your house. Alternatively contact us if you would be interested in supporting other 'bus' routes.
So far in 2010 we have successfully taken part in TravelWise Week and were the top performing Medium School in Auckland with an impressive 98% of our students travelling to school sustainability over that week. On Wednesday 21 April we attended a special ceremony to receive the award and a $400 Whitcoulls voucher. (See picture above).
Drive safely, and even better walk to school if you can!
The teacher at school who coordinates the Travelwise activities is Mrs Va'ai Sililoto who can be contacted by email at: vaais@avondalpeprimary.school.nz
Open this poster to see the results we did earlier in the year to check out how our kids get to school. The aim is to have as many as possible of our students walking safety to school. We now have a Walking School bus that operates on Mondays and Wednesdays. If you are interested pop into school for more informations.
